A new idea for non-profits.

There are a lot of non-profits that need volunteers on a regular basis.

There are also a lot of people who need a job or extra money on a regular basis.

What if there was a way to combine these two needs? What if people donated money in place of volunteering so that whoever volunteers in that position would get paid. For example, let’s say I was considering volunteering at an animal shelter for 5 hours per week. But instead of volunteering, I gave $60 per week… so then a person in the community can take my spot and do whatever I would have done as a volunteer and he/she gets $12 per hour for those 5 hours per week.

The non-profit would still benefit because their need would be filled.

The person who needed a job or extra money would also benefit because their need would be filled.

I do understand some people have time but don’t have the money. And other people truly want to volunteer because they feel good when they do or they just enjoy doing the work. But maybe it could work for some people who have more money then they do time… or those who have the money and want it to support two causes instead of one.

Do you think it could work?
