“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
*My thoughts: Time is a mysterious thing. I often get time mixed up, I’ll think something happened just last month and in reality, it was actually 6 months ago. Or I’ll say ‘that was just last year…’ when really it was 3 years ago. A day can fly by or it can drag on but yet the actual time passing doesn’t change. This scripture points out that time is not necessarily counted the same for us as it is for God and that indeed is very mysterious. Even though we may think the Lord is coming back soon – “soon” for us may not be even close to what “soon” means to God. Either way, really, there will be the same end result – the Lord is coming back. And God wants all people to reach repentance, he wants all people to turn from their ways and turn to him. God sent Jesus to be the ultimate sacrifice/payment/atonement for our sins and for those that do not know or believe that fact – they will perish. But that is not what God wants, God wants repentance and we, as Christians, need to do our part to help spread the word and get the message out there. We are sinners, we have a debt that we cannot repay yet it has already been paid by Jesus – and that is the good news we need to share.
